The Alberta Pandas blanked the Huskie women’s hockey team, 3-0, at Merlis Belsher Place on Friday night. The visitors took command in the second period by outshooting Saskatchewan 14-5 and scoring the game’s first goal when Madison Willan buried her third of the season at 14:50. “We have to stop making the same mistakes”, said Huskie head coach Steve Kook. “We’re not skating with the puck and when there is a lane, we are trying cross ice passes. At what point do we have to change our habits?”

Saskatchewan killed off two Alberta power play chances in the second period, but the Pandas did strike on a player advantage in the third. Brooklyn Tews scored her second goal of the season at the 12:57 mark of the final frame. Alberta was 1-for-3 on the power play while the Huskies were 0-for-2. “Special teams weren’t very good”, said Kook. “Pucks were on the tape and then off the team. We had to try break out three times in a row. We were just killing ourselves in that game. “

Third-year Panda Maia Ehmann rounded out the scoring with an empty-net goal with 1:27 left in the game. Grace Glover made 14 stops in the Alberta net for the shut-out while Huskie goaltender Emma Backman made 33 saves.

Saskatchewan fell to 0-9-3-1 with the loss, while Alberta improved to 10 and 3. The two teams will meet again on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 PM at Merlis Belsher Place. The game can be heard on the free HuskieFAN app.
