
A banner performance for Gage Grassick
Huskie captain Gage Grasick, who had a game-high 31 points, seven assists and four rebounds, led the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to the 2025 Canada West women’s basketball title with a 71-59 win over the UBC T-Birds at the PAC on Saturday night. The fourth-year Prince Albert product, who was also the Canada West player of the year, helped steer the home side to a dominant third quarter, outscoring the visitors 25-11. Maya Flindall came off the bench to chip in with 13 points, including seven free throws.
For the visitors, Canada West Rookie of the Year. Keira Daly. had 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals, but was limited to a 5 of 18 shooting performance.
The University of Saskatchewan generated 18 assists, a category which they led the conference in during the regular season. Saskatchewan also limited a Thunderbirds squad that entered the game second in scoring, to just 22 second half points.
With the win, the University of Saskatchewan captures its first Canada West title on home court since 2021-2022. Lisa Thomaidis has now led the Huskies to 10 Canada West banners.
