The Huskies return to home ice after Canada West bye
What a difference a year makes. After 10 games last season, the Huskies had just three points in the Canada West standings from overtime and shootout losses. At the ten-game point of the 2025-26 season, the USask women’s hockey team has only lost three games in regulation time and sits eight points back of Mount Royal and Calgary with games in hand on the east division leaders.
Newcomer Peppi Virtanen from Finland has helped provide some offense this season with four points in six games. The team’s leading scorer, fourth year forward Jayde Cadieux, has six points in the first ten games of the season, but has not scored a goal yet. “We think Jayde should be putting more pucks in the back of the net”, said Huskie head coach Steve Kook. “She’s always around the net. She’s giving herself some really good opportunities.”
Following a November 14-15 weekend bye, the 5-3-2 Huskies host the MacEwan Griffins this weekend at Merlis Belsher Place. The Griffins have just two wins in 14 regular season games. “They are better team than their record would indicate,” said Kook. “We have to get on them early.”
Head coach Steve Kook talked with HuskieFAN about this weekend’s series against the Griffins.
