Huskies post 53-point win over Alberta
The USask Huskies are in a first-place tie for top spot in the Canada West football standings after a 65-12 route of the Alberta Golden Bears on Friday night at Foote Field in Edmonton.
Quarterback Anton Amundrud threw his first of six touchdown passes to Rhett Vavra three minutes into the ball game following a Lucas Scheck interception. Scheck, a third-year defensive back with the Huskies had a second interception later in the first quarter that set up a James Keane 30-yard field goal.
Saskatchewan’s special teams had two blocked punts on the night, the first set up an Aulain Penner four-yard run early in the second quarter. Amundrud then connected with Dawson Leannea, Keaton Belsher and Vavra for touchdown tosses as the Huskies juped out to a 41-3 half-time lead.
Early in the third quarter, Amundrud found Keaton Belsher for a 59-yard major and later Javin Boynton on a 19-yard TD play as the Huskies took a 55-12 lead to the fourth quarter.
