Mason Nyhus on character QB Anton Amundrud
Records are meant to be broken. Entering the October 23rd game against the Alberta Golden Bears, quarterback Anton Amundrud finds himself 123 yards away from breaking the career Saskatchewan Huskie record for passing.
The Lloydminster product, who one year ago was diagnosed with T-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, is not only in remission but was healthy enough to get on the practice field in August for training camp and lead his team to top spot in the Canada West standings with the playoffs approaching.
Huskie offensive coordinator Mason Nyhus has an interesting perspective of Amundrud’s story. Not only was Nyhus a teammate of Anton’s when he started his U SPORTS career but is now coaching the fifth-year pivot.
Nyhus, who was a quarterback with the program from 2017-2022, knows firsthand the dedication it takes to run an offensive at the Canadian university sports level and spoke with HuskieFAN about Amundrud’s dedication and strength to lead the football team in 2026.
