Bisons visit Huskies in first of five straight home games for Saskatchewan

Nov 22, 2022 | 10:44 AM

The Huskie men’s hockey team returns home to face Manitoba on November 25th and 26th at Merlis Belsher Place. Both games start at 7pm. The Mount Royal Cougars defeated the Huskies 3-1 and 6-0 last weekend. Saskatchewan slid to fourth place in the standings with 17 points, 13 games in to the season.

The Huskies could only ice 17 skaters on Friday night because of a bug that made its way through the team. Head coach Brandin Cote was not making excuses for his team following the two setbacks. “I’d like to think most teams go through that in the course of a year”, he said. The U of S coaching staff is easing up on the players in practice this week, and Cote believes his team is on the mend. “There is never a good time for it. We are pretty optimistic going in to (this) weekend.”

The Bisons are currently tied with MacEwan for the sixth and final playoff spot in the conference following back to back wins over the Griffins on the weekend. Brett Davis leads Manitoba in scoring with 22 points in 14 games so far this season. “They’re playing high right now”, said Cote. “They’re in the mix of it all with regards to points.

The Huskies have five games on the schedule before the Christmas break, all at Merlis Belsher Place. After hosting the Bisons, Saskatchewan welcomes the Regina Cougars on Tuesday, November 29th in a make up game from earlier this season. The Calgary Dinos visit the U of S campus on December 2nd and 3rd.

Wray Morrison caught up with Cote to discuss the season to date, and this weekend’s series with the Bisons.
