Off to Alberta
The Huskies’ leading rusher was dominant in a 43-11 win over the Regina Rams on Saturday afternoon at Mosaic Stadium. Third year running back, Ryker Frank, had 172 yards on the ground and two touchdowns in Saskatchewan’s regular season finale. The 5 and 3 Huskies snapped a two-game losing skid and now visit the Alberta Golden Bears in a Canada West semi-final on November 4th.
“Ryker has been so good”, said head coach Scott Flory. “We just have to get him the ball. This morning, I asked Ryker how many touches he was ready for, he said all of them!” Frank scored two second quarter touchdowns, including a 40-yard run late in the first half which lifted the visitors to a 17-4 lead.
The team’s offensive line was strong, opening holes for the ground attack and in protection for the passing game. Flory shuffled the deck for this game moving 5th year lineman John Kourtis from right guard to centre. “He’s a big physical presence”, said Flory. “The offensive line was really good here today.”
First-year starting quarterback, Anton Amundrud, had 280 yards in passing and tossed second half touchdown passes to Kody Gutek and Caleb Morin as part of a 19-point fourth quarter. Amundrud also scored on an 8- yard touchdown run that lifted the visitors to a 24-4 third quarter advantage. Other than a third quarter interception, Amundrud called a strong game. “He was safe with the ball, he was smart with the ball”, said Flory. “He made phenomenal decisions today.”
