The Alberta Golden Bears dominated the U of S Huskies 40-17 in a Canada West conference semi-final at Foote Field on Saturday night. The Bears rallied with a 23-point second quarter to take a commanding 34-10 lead at half-time. Carter Kettyle caught a 75 yard pass and Jonathan Roasery a 69 yard touchdown pass to help Alberta to the huge advantage.

Bear quarterback, Eli Hetlinger, had 280 yards through the air and tossed four touchdown passes, two to Kolby Hurford. Kettyle was Alberta’s leading receiver with over 130 yards in receiving and one touchdown.

Huskie quarterback Anton Amundrud threw for 320 yards, but had trouble establishing a deep pass game, throwing three interceptions. Jonathan Giustini, Mack Bannatyne and Chase Pack had the interceptions for the home side. Huskie running back Ryker Frank scored both of Saskatchewan’s touchdowns, running for a 14-yard score in the first quarter, before finding the end zone on a one yard major in the fourth.

The Bears, who last played in a Hardy Cup in 1981, will visit the UBC Thunderbirds in the 2023 Canada West championship game on November 11th at Thunderbird Stadium. UBC overcame an early 17-3 deficit to defeat the Manitoba Bisons 29-21 in Saturday’s other semi-final.
