Huskies win big over Bisons

1st year centre Cade Hayes registered his first two-goal game as a Huskie in a dominant, 8-2, U of S win over the Manitoba Bisons on Friday night at Merlis Belsher Place. The Eatonia, Saskatchewan product showed a great deal of poise when discussing his big night. “That was nice to get those two and contribute to big win going into the playoffs”, he said.

Saskatchewan jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead as Mark Rumsey and Raphael Pelletier scored on Bison goaltender Ross Hawryluk. Early it the second period, with the score 2-1, the home side took control as Vince Loschiavo scored the first of two goals 2:34. The Huskies leading scorer, Chantz Petruic, scored at 3:40. Hayes, scored his first of the game at 4:37. Hawryluk was then replaced in the Manitoba net by Kolby Thornton.

Loschiavo buried his second of the game and 15th of the season at the 13:07 mark to make it a 6-2 game going in to the third period. The two third period Saskatchewan goals came from Dawson Holt and Hayes who now has 7 goals on the season. “Sometimes it’s tough to stay in games like that”, said Hayes. “But we’ve got playoffs coming soon so we always have to make sure we are playing our best hockey.”

Jackson Arpin and team captain Johnny Hooker had the Manitoba goals. Roddy Ross got the win with a 25 save performance for his 11th victory of the season in 15 games. Saskatchewan was 0-for-4 on the power play, Manitoba was 0-for-5 on the man advantage.

The Huskies, who were playing in their 5th game in 8 days, improved to 19-6-1-1 with the win. Manitoba fell to 5-21 and 1 with the loss. The two teams meet again on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 pm in the regular season finale for both teams. Saturday’s game can be heard on the free HuskieFAN app and HuskieFAN.ca
