Huskies return home to host Trinity Western
The west division leading Huskie men’s hockey team looks to fend off the Manitoba Bisons at the top of the Canada West standings this weekend. Saskatchewan leads Manitoba by two points entering the November 6-7 weekend.
While Manitoba visits Regina, the Huskies host the winless Trinity Western Spartans in a two-game series that starts on Friday night at 7:00 PM at Merlis Belsher Place. Saskatchewan now settles in for four straight home games after playing five of its last six on the road.
USask defeated the UBC Thunderbirds 6-3 and 3-2 in overtime during the October 30-31 weekend to improve to 7 and 1 on the season. Logan Bairos scored twice in the 6-3 victory, while hard working winger Ashton Ferster scored his second goal of the season in the 3-2 win. “When ever you are able to get scoring up and down your lineup it makes a big difference”, said Huskie head coach Brandin Cote.
The Trinity Western Spartans are winless eight games into the season, but the head coach warns that they still pose some threats his team will have to be mindful of. “In the games that they’ve played, the biggest spread has been three goals”, he said. They’ve got a couple of guys (Mikhalo Simchuk and Aiden Knutson) who are in the top five of scoring. We have to play to our standard and to our level. Our composure and discipline is going to be real important.”
