Four members of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies will compete in the 2023 USports East-West Bowl on May 13th in Hamilton. The game includes the top CFL draft eligible players for 2024.

Linebackers George Idoko and Nick Wiebe and offensive lineman Austin Haas will suit up for Team West. The Team East roster includes Huskie linebacker Ramsey Derbas.

Idoko, who is preparing for his fourth season with the Huskies, had 18.5 tackles in 12 games last season. The Calgary product also registered 1 sack and had 2 forced fumbles.

Wiebe, who transferred from Oregon prior to the 2021 season, was second in team tackles (64) and also had a sack in 2022. The Calgary product, who is getting set for his fifth season of eligibility with the Huskies, had seven tackles in the season opener against the Calgary Dinos.

Third year offensive lineman Austin Haas was named a Canada West first team all-star in 2022. The Tommy Douglas high school graduate played at right guard for much of the season and was instrumental in an offensive line that allowed just two sacks in four playoff games.

Derbas (who will play on the eastern team to balance out the rosters) will be in his fourth year of eligibility in 2023. The former Holy Cross Crusader was the Canada West rookie of the year in 2019.

There are a couple of other Saskatchewan players of note who will take part in the game. Melfort’s Brandyn Martin, a defensive back from St. FX, will dress for team east. The western roster will include defensive lineman Keenan Dell of Saskatoon, who attends the University of Toronto.

2023 marks the 20th season of the East-West Bowl, and it will be the third time that the game will be played at McMaster University.
