Willson is ready for Dog’s Breakfast
Former Super Bowl champion, Luke Willson, is looking forward to his first ever trip to Saskatchewan. Willson is the keynote speaker for the 2025 Staybridge Suites Holiday Inn Express, University Dog’s Breakfast on May 1st at Saskatoon’s Prairieland Park. “I’m excited, I can’t wait to be there,” he said. “To be honest, I’m talking to the ball players and letting them lead me the way to milk and honey”, he joked.
The LaSalle, Ontario product, who is currently an NFL analyst on TSN, played college football in Houston, at Rice University, before being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2013. Willson, who was part of a Super Bowl championship team in his rookie year, spent five seasons with the Seahawks before joining the Detroit Lions in 2018. In 2019, rejoined the Seahawks before wrapping up his playing career with Baltimore in 2020.
Willson will, no doubt, share stories about long-time NFL coach Pete Carroll. The former tight end discussed one memory about suffering a late season leg injury in his first year with the Seahawks. “I had gotten hurt in the 16th game of the season. I’m walking in the next day. It’s the Monday after the game. It’s January in Seattle. You haven’t seen the sun. I cross paths with Pete and I barely have my eyes open. Pete is shaking with excitement. I go ‘Good morning coach, how are you doing?’ He says ‘Good morning, Luke. I’m ready to rock and roll!’ in the most excited little kid voice you can imagine.”
Willson continued. “I remember eating my breakfast before going to rehab and thinking, I’m 23 and I’m dragging around this place. Pete was 60 something and bouncing off the walls. To this day, that’s always kind of stuck with me. I’ve got a million Pete Carroll stories, but I’ll save some for The Breakfast.”
