Saskatoon Minor Football player profile – Aulain Penner
Aulain Penner, a USask running back in his first year of eligibility, is this week’s Huskie/Saskatoon Minor Football player of the week. Penner, who is also a talented kick returner, attended Holy Cross high school in Saskatoon.
Penner grew up near Griffiths Stadium at the U of S campus. “As a kid, I could hear the fireworks after a Huskie home win. I could see them from my house! My family would come out to the homecoming game, and if it was a big game against Regina…you knew were going to come to that game. As a kid in the stands, those guys (Huskie players) were so cool. Now it’s me…kids are giving me high fives. It’s crazy to be in those shoes now.”
Former U of S Huskie, David Blackburn, was Penner’s first tackle football coach. “I did all the programs SMF ran”, he said. “When I was in grade six, when tackle football started, I said this is the game for me. I like the contact.”
Penner, who attends the Edwards School of Business, talked with HuskieFAN about how Saskatoon Minor Football helped him start a career with the U of S Huskies.
