The Huskies maintained their grip on top spot in the Canada West standings on Saturday with a 45-22 win over the Calgary Dinos at McMahon Stadium. After the Dinos took an 8-0 lead, the Huskies went on a 21-point run. Thomas Jule scored on a 58-yard pass from quarterback Anton Amundrud as USask pulled to within one. Saskatchewan took the lead for good early in the second quarter when fifth-year receiver Daniel Wiebe hauled in the first of three touchdown catches on a 37 strike from Amundrud. Five minutes later Amundrud hit Wiebe again on an 18-yard score to make it 21-8.

In the fourth quarter, with the Huskies ahead 24-14, Wiebe caught his third touchdown pass of the contest from ten yards out. Less than four minutes later, Dawson Lennea caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Amundrud as the Dogs took a 38-14 lead. The Huskies’ third-year starting quarterback finished the game with 429 yards in passing and five touchdowns.

Quarterback Jet Zacrzewski and receiver Zion Grant scored the Dino touchdowns. U of C starter David Jordan was held to 209 yards passing and the Huskie defense also limited Calgary to just 94 yards on the ground. Second-year Huskie Jacob Goldstone had 6.5 tackles, while Riece Kack and Reece McCormick were credited with sacks.

With the win the Huskies move to 4 and 1 on the season and remain tied with the Regina Rams in the Canada West standings. The U of R defeated Manitoba 30-8 on Saturday at Mosaic Stadium. USask is credited with top spot after a win over Regina last weekend.

The Huskies now host the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday, October 4th at 7:00 PM at Griffiths Stadium. The game can be heard on the free HuskieFAN app with pre game coverage starting at 6:45 PM.
