A Huskie-Ram Rematch

Another all Saskatchewan Hardy Cup

Nov 1, 2025 | 11:14 PM

Just as it was in 2024, the Regina Rams will visit the Saskatchewan Huskies for the 2025 Hardy Cup following Saturday’s Canada West semi-finals. At Griffiths Stadium, U Sask dominated the UBC Thunderbirds 26-7. It marked the third time this season that the Huskies defeated the T-Birds.

Saskatchewan held UBC to just 49 yards, rushing and 258 yards in total offense. (The Thunderbirds’ lone touchdown was scored very late in the fourth quarter.) Huskie safety Ethan Laing intercepted two errand Drew Viotto passes while U Sask defensive lineman Hayden Russell was credited with 1.5 sacks.

Huskie first-year starter Jake Farrell leaned on his veterans. Fifth year running back, Ryker Frank, had 192 yards on the ground while fifth-year receiver, Daniel Wiebe, had 131 yards and caught at 12-yard TD toss from Farrell in the second quarter. Dawson Lennea had Saskatchewan’s only other touchdown on a 13-yard strike from Farrell in the third quarter. Farrell finished with 216 yards, passing with two touchdowns and one interception.

The Thunderbirds, who finished the regular season with a 3 and 5 record, are 0 and 9 in all-time playoff games at Griffiths Stadium.

The Rams advanced to the conference final with a thrilling 32-29 double overtime win over the Manitoba Bisons at Mosaic Stadium. It was a wild finish as U of M kicker Maya Turner made good on a 16-yard field goal to give the visitors a 26-23 lead with 33 seconds left. Regina made the most of the time they had to work with and got the ball to the Bison 29 setting up a 35-yard field goal from Ty Gorniak with zeros on the clock in the fourth quarter.

In the second overtime period, after Gorniak kicked a 22-yard three pointer, Manitoba got the ball to the Ram 16-yard line, however Turner hit the upright on a 23-yard attempt and the Rams escaped with the win.

Regina defeated Saskatchewan in last year’s Hardy Cup, 19-14 at Griffiths Stadium. The two teams met once during the 2025 regular season with the Huskies pulling out a 22-20 win in Saskatoon on September 19th.

Saturday’s Hardy Cup starts at 2:00 PM at Griffiths Stadium and can be heard on the free HuskieFAN app.
