Huskies look to rebound in Edmonton

Jan 22, 2026 | 6:50 PM

In the team’s first road trip of the 2026 calendar year, the Huskie women’s hockey squad takes on the Alberta Panadas in January 23rd and 24th contests in Edmonton. USask is also looking for its first win of the new year after losing back-to-back home ice series against the Manitoba Bisons and the Mount Royal Cougars.

The struggles have allowed the Bisons to pull into a third-place tie with Saskatchewan with 19 points in the east division of the Canada West standings. Huskie assistant coach Robin Ulrich says players may benefit from a road series at this time of the season. “The girls are looking forward to it”, she said. “It’s nice to get some time together.”

The coaching staff has been looking forward to offensive contributions from veteran forwards Jayde Cadieux and Sara Kendall. Kendall, a fifth year forward from Ponteix, Saskatchewan, scored her third of the season on Saturday against the Cougars. “An absolutely beautiful goal”, said Ulrich. She hit the jets and ripped it under the bar” Hopefully, going into the stretch, that’s gives her a boost.

Cadieux, a talented fourth year forward from Cold Lake, Alberta, has eight assists in 20 games this season but is still in search of her first goal. “I thought Jayde had an exceptional weekend”, said Ulrich. It’ll only be a matter of time. If one goes in, more will follow.”

The Pandas have 22 points and are a single point back of Trinity Western for second spot in the Canada West, west division. Ulrich says the Pandas are a team that “defends well and is structurally sound.”

Ulrich spoke with HuskieFAN about the 3-2 and 5-1 losses to Mount Royal on the January 16th-17th weekend and about this weekend’s series against the Pandas.
