2026 Huskie Football season opener

Scott Flory begins his 10th year, (9th season because of 2020 pandemic) as head coach of the University of Saskatchewan Huskie football program. The Huskies have appeared in three Vanier Cup games in the last five seasons and in 2026 will look to capture the school’s first national championship since 1998.

There is a nice mix of veterans and newcomers to the team. While dynamic players such as running back Ryker Frank and Daniel Wiebe have graduated from the program, the USask offense still has some dynamic playmakers, including Aulain Penner who had over 130 all-purpose offensive yards in Saskatchewan’s 35-1 preseason win over the Alberta Golden Bears on August 27th.

After being chosen by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL draft, Seth Hundeby is no longer on the defensive side of the ball. The team is still deep with linebackers ready for elevated roles including Zach Zary and Porter Hanson. Ottawa product Nathan Casimir joins the team in the secondary after spending some time in the NCAA with Western New Mexico and Merrimack College.

USask was ranked number one in the Canada West coaches’ poll which was released on September 3rd. The Huskies visit the Manitoba Bisons in the 2026 season opener on Saturday, September 5th at 1:00 PM at IG Field in Winnipeg. Coverage on Huskie fan starts at 12:45 PM. (Saskatchewan time)
