Huskies complete sweep of Dinos
Alabama’s Dixieland Delight—the Huskie men’s hockey celebration song—echoed through the hallways outside the dressing room following a 2-0 shutout win over the Calgary Dinos on Saturday night at Merlis Belsher Place. A well-rounded effort defensively, along the boards, and in the opposing zone played a big factor as Saskatchewan improved to 2-0 in the Canada West standings. The officials let the teams play, setting a fast, physical tone, with USask outshooting the Dinos 6-3 in a scoreless first period.
Saskatchewan finally solved Dino goaltender Carl Tetachuk early in the second period when first-year forward Jaydon Dureau scored his first U SPORTS goal. The White City, Sask. product—who played five seasons with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks and five seasons in pro hockey (AHL and ECHL)—took a pass from Josh Pillar at the blue line and snapped it past Tetachuk from the left face-off circle. Skating on a line with Pillar and Raphael Pelletier, Dureau has quickly settled into the group. “This is probably one of the most connected groups I’ve played with for a long time,” Dureau said. “We have a great squad here, so I’m excited for this year.”
Dureau spoke with HuskieFAN’s Wray Morrison after the game.
