Oct 1, 2022 | 11:20 PM

Jaxan Kaluski scored the overtime winner while Jared Dmytriw had a hat trick as the Huskies Men’s Hockey team overcame a four-goal deficit to win 6-5 over Trinity Western on Saturday night.

Kaluski would net the game-winner with 1:16 left in the second overtime period after taking a pass from Cael Zimmerman.

The Trinity Western Spartans scored the first goal of the game just 3:23 into the first period on a deflection from Michael Spafford. Spafford would add an assist less than three minutes later on a goal from Luke Spadafora.

Jared Dmytriw would break the shutout, scoring the Huskies’ first goal 28 seconds later.

Daine Dubois and Kade McMillan would close the first period for the Spartans to make it 4-1 before Josh Borynec gave the visiting team a four-goal lead 5:45 into the second period.

Jared Dmytriw got his second of the game at 12:54 to cut the deficit to 5-2 at the end of the second period.

After Alex Zawatsky made it 5-3 early in the third period, Dmytriw would complete his hat trick at the 15:12 mark before Gunner Kinniburgh tied the game less than two minutes later.

The first period of four-on-four overtime resulted in no goals, which meant the teams went to the second overtime of three-on-three where Kaluski would win it for the home team.

Declan Hobbs would get the win in goal after replacing Jordan Kooy who was pulled following the first period after allowing four goals on eight shots.

After the game, Kaluski reflected on his big overtime goal.

“It felt really good to get the winner and get out of here with four points from the weekend.”

Kaluski talked briefly about what was said in the locker rooms before the third period.

“We knew we could do it, we just had to stick together. That was kind of our message, just stay together and see what happens.”

Dmytriw meanwhile reflected on his three-goal night and the comeback win.

“We didn’t start the way we wanted to. We put ourselves behind the eight-ball early and I’m proud of our group for sticking with it,” he said. “I have to give my linemates a ton of credit tonight, they gave me the puck in areas where I could put the puck into the net.”

The Huskies take to the road next weekend as they prepare to face off with the University of Calgary Dinos on October 7 and 8.
