First of three weekend meetings vs. UBC

After playing each other just twice last season, the USask Huskies and UBC Thunderbirds meet six times in the 2026-27 season with the first matchups set for October 30th and 31st at Merlis Belsher Place.

The two teams are both in the same division this season with the Huskies in the west penthouse with 9 points. (4-1-1) The T-Birds, who had a bye during the October 23-24 weekend, are 3-1 and sit with six points.

Saskatchewan earned three of a possible four points with a 2-1 overtime loss and a 1-0 win against the Regina Cougars last weekend in a home-and-home series. Veteran goaltender Emma Backman earned the Saturday night shutout in the Queen City with a 21 save performance.

Third-year forwards Kaysah and Jaiyana Nurani (twin sisters) scored the two goals in the weekend series against the Cougars. In this edition of The Coach’s Show, Steve Kook discusses the weekend series against Regina, a look ahead to the Thunderbird series and the importance of third year players taking on the leadership roles with the team.
