Roulette named U SPORTS men’s hockey rookie of the year

Huskie forward Conner Roulette was named the U SPORTS men’s hockey rookie of the year in Halifax on Wednesday morning. Roulette led the Canada West conference in rookie scoring during the 2025-26 season with 35 points in 28 regular-season games. The Winnipeg product continued a torrid scoring pace with 12 points in a perfect 6-0 playoff run for Saskatchewan, playing a key role in the programs’ second straight Canada West title. Roulette is the fourth Huskie to win the Clare Drake Award following Jason Becker (1995-96), Dean Beuker (2002-03), and Steven DaSilva (2008-09). 

USask defenceman Landon Kosior was named a second team All Canadian. Playing on the Huskies’ top pairing, the third year Huskie finished second in scoring among Canada West defenders with just over a point per game with four goals and 29 assists. 

Saskatchewan faces the host St. Mary’s Huskies in their first game of the 2026 University Cup in Halifax on Thursday afternoon. USask had a 19-7-1-1 record and swept Alberta, UBC and Mount Royal on their way to consecutive Canada West titles. SMU is the eighth seed of the tournament after a 16-10-1-3 regular season before being eliminated by UPEI in the first round of the AUS playoffs. 

Thursday’s Saskatchewan -St. Mary’s game can be heard on the free HuskieFAN app with pre-game coverage starting at 3:45 PM, Saskatchewan time. 

The first game of the 2026 University Cup has #4 Windsor up against #5 Mount Royal at 10:00 AM. On Friday #6 Moncton squares off against #3 UQTR at 10:00 AM followed by the 4:00 quarterfinal between #7 Queens and #2 University of New Brunswick. 

Winners advance Saturday’s semifinals at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The bronze medal game will be played at 6:00 AM on Sunday…the gold medal match will start at 10:00 AM, Saskatchewan time.
